They say opposites attract but what if the odds are stacked against them?

Having grown up in foster care, music teacher and pianist Isabelle Parker is no stranger to change and upheaval. So when an opportunity presents itself to follow her best friend to the small, quaint town of White Lake, Texas, Isabelle doesn’t think twice about making the move. She quickly embraces the place as home, and even with her bold personality, purple hair, and unconventional teaching methods, most of the town seems to embrace her too; even if they don’t quite understand her.

Pastor Dustin Jansen likes structure and predictability. But there was no predicting that he would become a widower so young or be raising a daughter with severe anxiety all by himself. When his daughter Charlotte develops an affinity for music, her counselor suggests private lessons with Isabelle. Unsure if the bold and quirky music teacher is really the stability his daughter needs, Dustin is hesitant at first; but everyone around him assures him that she’s uniquely qualified for the job.

As Charlotte and Isabelle start working together, Dustin is struck by how much his usually shy and anxious daughter is coming out of her shell. Even more surprising is how he enjoys her company as well. But just as they start letting go of past hurts to see if opposites really do attract, outside obstacles threaten to destroy not only their budding relationship but the new lives they’ve both built in White Lake. Are their differences too much to overcome? Or will they be able to trust that with God’s help their love can be more than enough?

My Comments:

Isabelle Parker, a music teacher, was called to the principal’s office, much to her surprise, or maybe not after yesterday’s unorthodox class, and the principal may have found out. A good chance she was going to get reprimanded for having a dance party in one of her music classes. That class seemed to be a little uptight, so she thought she'd loosen things up a bit.

After growing up in foster care and never being adopted, Isabelle could spot tension in a child. Isabelle also learned to cope with disappointment by expressing herself through music and by wearing platinum blonde hair with streaks of purple, which the kids in her music classes loved, and they loved Isabelle's unique self. Isabelle was hesitant to admit it, but she could relate to kids having problems.

Charlotte Jansen, a kindergartner who had lost her mother, and her pastor father, Dustin Jansen, who was grieving the loss too and wasn’t sure how to help Charlotte with her anxiety over losing her mother. The only thing he could think of was moving out of the big city to the small town of White Lake, TX, where he hoped the smaller community would be less strenuous for the child.

But one day, Charlotte had an outburst in class, which upset the rest of the class, and directly after the incident, when they attended music class with Miss Parker, she sensed something was out of balance and had a dance party, which did the trick to make everyone forget their problems. The kids loved it and loved Miss Parker. So when the principal found out, Isabelle was called to the office with the father, Charlotte's therapist, and the principal to work out a plan for Charlotte to visit the music class when Charlotte felt the need. But one look at Isabelle and Pastor Jansen wasn’t entirely sure he could trust Isabelle with his daughter. He was conventional and Isabelle was anything but ... but he was willing to try the new plan. From here the plot thickens and they pull you into their journey, so I'll let you finish the lovely story.

A bold subject that was nicely plotted and I highly recommend, especially for parents of young children with special needs. It’s a tender faith-based story that will be an encouragement. I thoroughly enjoyed the story. It is a well-written and researched story that promises to make you feel good.
