Wisconsin, 1931—Buck Wilson refuses to accept failure as his reward for all he has sacrificed, but he’s kept secrets for too long to be believed. With his freedom on the line, there’s only one person he trusts to mine for the true story: the woman he left one month before their wedding.

All investigative journalist Caroline Wagoneer wants is to shine a light on the truth wherever darkness threatens to obscure it. Which is the only reason she agrees to help her ex-fiancĂ© when he begs for her to go undercover in Crow’s Nest. What she discovers paints Buck in a whole new light.

With lies and rumor hemming them in, Buck and Caroline realize their love may be doomed on the altar of altruism. Unless love can truly conquer all.

Welcome to Crow’s Nest, where danger and romance meet at the water’s edge.

Ruby Shepherdson has worked hard to secure her job as a reporter for The Horizon Herald. After a costly mistake, Ruby’s unforgiving boss gives her an ultimatum to either interview the handsome and reclusive Jake Lynton—or lose her job. But each time Ruby has attempted to obtain an interview, Mr. Lynton has refused. Why would anyone who has saved the lives of four people deny recognition? And why does she find herself drawn to the man?

Jake Lynton just wants to be left alone. Haunted by the past, he runs from both guilt and God by leaving home and somehow finding himself in Horizon, Idaho. His hopes of living as a recluse are foiled when a pesky, but beautiful reporter insists he allow her to interview him about a good deed gone awry. Despite Jake’s efforts, Ruby Shepherdson persists, soon endearing herself to him while somehow remaining endlessly annoying.

Jake’s story isn’t the only one Ruby seeks to publish. When rumors of ill dealings come to her attention, she sets forth to uncover the truth—truth someone does not want revealed. As danger emerges and an unanticipated enemy determines to keep Ruby silent, will Jake fit the pieces together in time to rescue her? Or will he lose the woman who has found a place in his heart?

Reviewers Comments:

Ruby Shepherdson wanted someday to get married and have a family, but for now, she dreamed of her writing getting discovered by a big-town newspaper editor. But atlas, that was only a dream. For now, she’d stay writing for The Horizon Herald and cantankerous Mr. O’Kane. When she received notice that a package had been delivered to the mercantile for Ruby, but not just any package, one she’d taken out a loan at the bank to purchase. Too excited to wait for Papa to have time to drive to town, she borrowed Papa’s team of horses and wagon and drove herself to town. On the return trip home, an idea hit Ruby, she reached for her pad and pencil to jot down a note, the reins slipped from her hands, the horses bolted off the road, tore through the weeds and ended up with the wagon mired down in a mud hole. She tried to ease it free but couldn’t. When a peculiar-acting stranger offered to help, she asked his name, but he refused to give it… And what good investigative reporter is going to let that go.

Beyond the Horizon by Penny Zeller is not only a delightful novel, but the writing pulls the readers into the story so they feel like they are right there in Horizon, Idaho. It’s sweet and clean, and like Ruby’s wild ride in the buckboard, it grabs the reader on page one and holds them tightly to the last page. The characters are well-developed and the story lively and unforgettable? Highly recommended.

Helena Allston had it all—wealth, beauty, and a life of luxury on her family's plantation. But when her father arranges a marriage to a man she despises, Helena takes matters into her own hands, fleeing on horseback, only to find herself half-drowned and memory-less in a simple cottage. And when her memory returns, Helena ends up back where she began—arranged to marry, this time to the handsome gamekeeper who rescued her.

Could there be more than obligation to this marriage? Or is he only after the Windemere Plantation her father promised him?

Gideon Falconer is at a loss when it comes to the stubborn, beautiful woman he rescued from the Ashley River. His predicament only worsens when he returns her to her family's plantation, where her father shocks him with a demand that Gideon marry his daughter to prevent a scandal. As a man new to his faith, he feels compelled to do the right thing, but his own secrets and the past left behind in England threaten to complicate matters further.

In a marriage that began as a mere obligation, can Helena and Gideon find the strength to let love and trust conquer all, despite a determined enemy's schemes to wreck their hope?

Reviewer comments:

Helena Allston’s father has signed a contract for her to wed George Beauregard, thing is, Helena finds him a detestable prig and vows to never wed him. When Beauregard finds her out riding her horse, Stormy, along the Ashley River Road, he chases her to try to make good on her father’s promise. To escape the rogue, Helena drives her horse into the river, but the jump forces her underwater where her clothing catches on a rock. Beauregard gives her up for dead, but Gideon Falconer, a religious man and once a wealthy man until the family fortune was lost, jumps in to save her. He pulls her out, but she has temporary lost her memory, and since he doesn’t know who she is, she stays the night without a chaperon and thereby hurting her reputation. Her father presses Gideon to marry his daughter with the promise of Windemere Plantation. But Helena’s beauty and grace steel Gideon’s heart, he just doesn’t know how to convince Helena when she only thinks of him in terms of a deal to keep her reputation intact. Gideon has a kind heart and must prove his love for Helena.

A tender and touching story of losing self and all their hurt and prejudice to find what they’ve been missing, if they’ll open their hearts and forget the past. Well-written and a story that will grab your heart and pull you into the past on the first page and not let you go until the end. It’s a lively and entertaining story that takes the reader into plantation life and introduces them to some wonderful characters. Highly recommend.
